Meet the Superintendent

Anthony J. Aikens comes to lead Crawford County Schools with twenty-five years of educational experience to support his decision making and leadership abilities. He taught for eight years at the secondary and post-secondary levels before moving to administration where he has a total of seventeen years.

Aikens leadership career began as an assistant principal at both elementary and secondary levels. He then became principal at the elementary level where students flourished under his leadership. As a result, he was promoted to the Executive Director of Administrative Services at Griffin-Spalding Schools, and he served in that capacity for six years before coming to Crawford County as Superintendent.

Aikens earned both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Mathematics, as well as a Specialist Degree in Leadership and Supervision.

As an educator and administrator, Aikens had experience with instructional leadership, instructional frameworks, district policies and procedures, legal issues involving students, parents and guardians, athletics and coaching. This experience was rounded out with extensive experience in the leadership of transportation, nutrition, facilities and construction, technology, and budgets and fiscal planning.

In addition to his educational experience, Aikens also had prior experience in the business world. This provided him a firm foundation for management and supervision as he had leadership roles in manufacturing, as well as the service and retail industry.

With many years of experience to his credit, Aikens describes his greatest strength as his ability to build and foster relationships of trust and caring. He notes,

"I want to build a strong educational community here in Crawford County based on trust and respect."
